This video is a passion topic of mine, but it’s full of valuable lessons for anyone who wants to tell stories for a living. Local Hero (1983) is a masterful 80s feature directed by Bill Forsyth. It’s full of rich characters and quiet but poignant moments. I learned recently that it inspired my favourite ever TV show, Northern Exposure, which aired in the 90s and is equally good—or maybe even better—at the same kinds of technique.
